The Night My Son Met Steve
By Lisa Basso-VanDusen

Well, it all started the day my husband and I discovered that our 3 year old son Paulie loved to listen to Journey. My husband and I have always been BIG Journey fans. We've always played all kinds of music in the house but, everytime we played Journey he would always want to hear it over and over again. Our son just loved music, not to metion the guitar. One day my husband remembered that we had the Raised on Radio video so he popped it in for my son. Well you should have seen his eyes, couldn't believe that these are the guys that he loves to listen to. Ever since that day he would want us to play it over and over and over again. Soon we knew every word Steve, Neal and Jonathon were going to say on that video, that's how much we heared it. He even took that video over Barney, and that was big because he loved Barney. Soon every thing was Journey and Steve Perry.

Well one day I found out Steve Perry was coming out with a new CD. My husband and I anxiously awaited for the release of that CD, for us but mostly for Paulie because we knew how much he loved Steve Perry. So, finally got the CD and just about wore it out between the three of us. In the mean time we even joined the fan club to keep up to date on things and when he'd be touring. Well to make a long story short Steve was coming to town, we got our tickets I even had a shirt made for my son with Steves picture on it from the CD cover. He just loved that shirt. One day I was thinking that I wish Steve Perry knew how much this kid loved him, so I called the radio station here in Rochester. Talked to the DJ and told him my story. I told him we had tickets but asked if Paulie could meet Steve even just for a minute. The DJ said he had no more back stage passes left. So I thanked him anyway and told him Oh well as long as he gets to the concert.

The night of the concert Paulie was so excited he had his shirt on and wearing it proudly. People were looking at us like why are you bringing your kid here? They had no idea. All of a sudden my husband sees the DJ from the radio station waiting with the people to go back stage. So my husband went up to him and said Dave, I don' t know if you remember my wife calling you this week about my son? Dave looked over and seen Paulie and couldn't believe it. He asked him "who are you here to see"? and Paulie said STEVE PERRY! So Dave said I have to do something for this kid, here mom take you son back stage, and handed me 3 tickets. We couldn't believe it, we were all in shock. So we went back stage Steve came out and was so great to Paulie. He even looked at his shirt and said "nice shirt"! My sons eyes were like saucers. He just looked at him in awe, like here's the guy I've been watching on tv all the time.

Steve gave us all autographed pictures and it just so happened to be the same picture on Paulie's shirt. We all will never forget that time, Steve was just great. Needless to say the concert was great, Steves voice sounded great as usual. Paulie never took his eyes off of him the whole concert, he talked about it for days and days. Paulie now is 8 years old plays the guitar and drums he's a natural, he found his gift. As for Journey, he still loves them but has been very disappointed that they are not together with Steve. He was waiting for Journey to tour after the release of Trial By Fire. But unfortunatly we will never see that. He's very disappointed and doesn't want to hear the new singer for Journey, he wants Steve. He still has Steve's posters and pictures up in his room, hoping some day they will meet again.
